CELEBRATING OUR CENTENARY
In the lead up to our Centenary Gala Year, we've managed to trace 104 of our 144 previous Kings and Queens. Can you please help us with the remaIning 37? Please click the 'History Appeal' link at the top of the page
If you have any information that might help, please contact Committee Member Lorraine Klimek on 0789 100 4676 or email her at elky1960@yahoo.co.uk
NB: If anyone has any photos of the 1938 King and Queen (Alexander Tayor and Mary Barton ) we'd love to get a copy!
NEWTONGRANGE GALA CENTENARY
CHAIRMANS MESSAGE
Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls. I would like to welcome everyone to the 2013 Children's Gala. This year marks 100 years since the creation of this event. Although now carried out in a slightly different format than the inaugural event, the basis & intent are the same, this day in the Newtongrange calendar is set aside for the young people of the village to shine before Parents, Teachers & their Peers.
I am extremely proud to be involved in this historic year & I know all the Commitee members feel the same.
At one time almost all small villages carried out similar versions of this event and sadly now there are not so many. A few of these smaller events cannot sustain the funding or commitment to carry on in these difficult times, it is a great credit to Newtongrange that we are one of the lucky ones.
Newtongrange Children's Gala wuld not be possible without the help from local people & businesses alike, the Committee are also dedicated to help contine this event & carry out a fantastic amount of work throughout the year to ensure its continuing success. Without the efforts of the local people we could not realise the ambition to host this event.
Midlothian Council also allow us to use a huge amount of resources & equipment, I would like to say a huge thank you to them for this.
One of the more exciting projects that has been completed for this year is the design & build of the new Staging area in the Park which will be used for the first time at the Centenary Crowning Ceremony, we hope that other groups within the village will make use of this facility as well. The Committee were instrumental in the initial design process, after liasing with other groups in the Village we approached our Councillors & they secured funding to make it happen, for this we thank them.
We hope that everyone has a fantastic day at Newtongrange Gala, residents & visitors alike, one last thing, please pray for the weather.
Thank You
John Turnbull
