1. Can you remember the first Gala Day you attended? (Date etc). Did you receive anything e.g. cakes, milk, etc?
1930 -Bag with pie and buns and new penny. Milk to drink (6 years old).
2 .Where did you assemble, and are there any teachers you can remember who 'marched' with you ?
Square Park. Teacher: Miss Dykes
3. Can you remember who the Queen was , and who crowned her?
No.
4. Are there any funny stories you can remember that happened at the Gala? (sound problems/crowning problems etc)
1938 - When the King knelt to be crowned (Alexander Taylor), his breeches burst at the knee!
5. What was the best Gala you ever attended and why?
1938- I was on Stage as Crown & Sceptre Bearer for the King (Alexander Taylor -May Barton was Queen). I got a shilling and tea at the Church Hall and wore first pair of long trousers afterwards.
6. When you attend a Gala , do you stay just for the Ceremony, or the whole afternoon or a specific time?
I just go to Park to see Parade come in.
7. What do you think about the present Gala Days (set up, fund-raising etc)?
Good.
