Gala Week: Max-AM disc jockey Tom Bell judged the Fancy Dress Contest. Winners included a Viking with his longboat, Super Ted and Peter Pan while Maw Broon and Laurel and Hardy clinched the prizes in the adult section. Newtongrange Scout Group won the float section prize along with the Archie Neilson Trophy for Best in Show with their Newtongrange Gala Chuck Wagon accompanied by a tribe of Indians on wooden horses! While the fancy dress entries were being judged, Newtongrange Primary School's "A" Team were busy beating their "B" team into second place in the junior five-a-side tournament. The 12-14 years' section was won by Dalkeith Thistle Boys' Club.

Evening News Festival Cavalcade Newtongrange Gala's Chinese
Junk took third prize in the Community Section. A number of Newtongrange boys
and girls took part along with Gala Committee members. Donnie Munro, Rector
of Edinburgh University and member of "Runrig" judged the event.
