Newtongrange Gala Week will be held from Sunday May 30 to Sunday June 6. On the first day of the gala week there will be a fancy dress parade with decorated floats and bicycles taking part. The parade will leave from Hamilton Crescent and proceed to the park. The judge will be Radio Forth disc jockey Brian Ford .

During the week there will be a senior citizens' social in the Morris Club and admission is free. There will also be a novelty pet show, a tug-of-war tournament and an invitation five-a-side football competition.

The gala day will start off with a motorcade tour throughout the village which will leave from Main Street and finish up at the Square Park.

There will also be a competition for the best decorated gate or doorway. All householders In the village are invited to decorate their gates or doorways.

In the afternoon, the crowning ceremony of this year's Gala King and Queen, Alan Potts and Elizabeth Hopkins, will be held at 1.45pm However, before the crowning there will be a procession through the village .

During the afternoon there will be a children's meal, displays by Lothian and Borders Police and Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade and a display by HMS Claverhouse. Other events include the Radio Forth Roadshow, a majorette's competition, bonny babies, shapely ankles and glamorous granny competitions. Music will be provided by Newtongrange and Bilston Silver Band and the Lady Victoria and Bilston Pipe Band. There will also be pony rides, Highland dancing and sideshows.
