1965
One of the village's annual highlights, the crowning ceremony of the Children's Gala King and Queen and the Gala Day celebrations, were partially marred by the inclemency of the weather.
During the Gala Week several functions were cancelled owing to the bad conditions. Mr.John Slater, Chairman of the Gala Week Committee presided over the children and several thousand interested adult spectators.
The Crowning Ceremony was performed by Maureen Weston and Brian G. Wilson, last year's Queen and King. The King, James Parker and Queen, Jean Wood were presented with watches on behalf of the Gala Week Committee by Mr.Slater who also made presentations to the ex - King and Queen. Each child received a bag of eatables, milk and a sixpence.
