An excellent start has been made to the annual gala week organised by the Newtongrange children's Gala Day Committee. The week's programme includes bowling tournaments, five-a-side football and a cavalcade of youth organisations. On Friday in the local Community Hall a dress rehearsal of the crowning ceremony will be given followed by a Gala Eve dance. On Saturday the climax will be the coronation of the King Andrew Irvine, 32 Dean Park and Queen, Alexandria Herriot,
8 Mansfield Place, Dux pupils of Newtongrange School. As in previous years, the school children will march from the Square Park through the principal streets to the colourful setting of the Public Park where the crowning ceremony and Gala Day festivities and other attractions will be carried through. A dance will be held later.
On Sunday the King, Queen and court will attend a special youth service in Newtongrange Parish Church.
