Children's Gala Day
7 July 1927

The annual gala day was held on Saturday. In the early forenoon it did not seem as if the weather was to be propitious but, fortunately, at midday the sun shone forth and a beautiful afternoon was the result. The children assembled in the Square Park where the ceremony of the crowning of the Queen took place.

The Court comprised:
Queen - Elizabeth N. Carson, 53 Sixth Street;
Chief Maid of Honour - Rosa Dubickas, 47 The Square;
Maids of Honour - Barbara Moffat, 4 Eighth Street, Mary Bishop, 2 Third Street, Jane Naysmith, 71 Dean Park
Georgina Archibald, 47 Easthouses;
Herald - Alex Gardiner, Craigesk, Dalkeith;
Crown Bearer - John Moffat, Arbuthnot Cottage;
Sceptre Bearer - James Livingstone, 69 Fifth Street;
Pages - Allan Hunter, 24 Main Street, William Scott, 2 Sixth Street.

The crowning ceremony was gracefully performed by Mrs Jeffrey UF Church Manse. Mrs James Smith acted as Queen Mother and Mr Smith was in charge of the arrangements. Thereafter the children were marshalled by their teachers and headed by the Lothian Silver Band, proceeded through the streets to the Welfare Park where refreshments were served. A programme of sports was entered into while the Lothian Silver Band and an Edinburgh Boys Brigade Pipe Band discoursed music. The park was looking its loveliest and presented an animated scene. Mr William Kirkwood was in charge of the whole of the proceedings.
