Chairmans Message

Once again I would like to welcome everyone to Newtongrange Children’s Gala.
This year more than ever we have had to work harder to raise the funds for the Gala in the current
economic climate, but as ever, the people and businesses of Newtongrange have generously helped
us achieve our goal of hosting the best Gala in Midlothian.

Many thanks go to all the Businesses who sponsor the Gala Events and take adverts in the
programme, without which we would not have the finances to continue with this event.
Special thanks must also go to the Parents, Grandparents and friends of the Gala Court for all the
effort that involves having a child on the Gala.

The Drivers who give up their time on the Friday evening and the Saturday is also a big
commitment which deserves thanks.

The Gala Committee also gratefully acknowledges the help and assistance provided by
Midlothian Council and Staff who put a tremendous effort to help with
Labour and Equipment.

The Front Cover of the Programme was chosen from a competition run in conjunction with the
Primary schools involved with the Gala,
and the winner was chosen as Jack Webster from Newtongrange Primary School.
WELL DONE JACK.

Finally I would like to thank all the other people who help with the Gala behind the scenes,
who are not on the Gala, but help in other ways.
Thank You.

Newtongrange Children’s Gala Committee would like to thank everyone involved in this year’s Gala. The Gala was once again a great success and once again the rain stayed away until after the children performed the Crowning Ceremony. The park was full all day and everyone seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere.

We would like to thank all the event sponsors and also other businesses for their support and donations that helping make our Gala so enjoyable for the people and visitors to Newtongrange. Midlothian Council and their workers in the park make our job a lot easier and we would like to extend our thanks to them and the many other people who turn up year after year to help in the park and also with the parade. From driving and decorating their cars to helping arrange the cars and parade. Once again the Dalkeith Flower shop provided the court with lovely flowers and buttonholes along with decorations for the stage and we are grateful to them for doing this each year. Thanks also to everyone who took part in the parade and entertainment in the park on the day.

Paul Haringman again gave a great sermon at the Sunday Kirking Service which was enjoyed by all the children and adults who filled the church. Paul and friends at the church also organised a lovely cake and drinks in the garden of the church before the court left for the disco.

Lastly, we would like to thank the children of the Court and their families and friends who helped make the village a brighter place for the week of the Gala. A lot of hard work goes into decorating the gates on top of all the work getting ready to take part in the Gala.

You can see the fabulous photos taken by our official photographer, John Darcy, on our web site www.newtongrangegala.com. These can be downloaded free of charge. John does a great job of the photos each year and works hard on the web site all year round.

Thanks again to everyone involved with the Gala and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
