The Dean on New Year's Day

Newtongrange Silver Band, humble in its origin - splendid in its achievements and always belonging.

For over a century, The Dean Tavern has witnessed the drama and listened to the stories that are Newtongrange and it's families - a place of tryst for the community.

Both come together, as the band arouses the village to a New Year. Then all go on to rejoice in The Dean
AND I WAS THERE!

So many crowd into the bar.
Friends and stranger's, we didn't care.
We couldn't move. We laughed we sang.
New Year in The Dean and I was there.
Roused by the band as they tunely marched,
Euphoniously imbuing the winter's air.
All Roads leading to The Dean.
New Year's Day and I was there.
Jim welcomes as they near the door.
Margaret, Derek and all were there.
Beer and cash passed over heads.
Newtongrange exults with New Year fair.

I spoke with some from Inverness,
America, Germany - from everywhere,
The world proclaims this special day,
New Year in The Dean and I was there,
Phillips, O'Connors, Smith all were there
I hear, I look, I feel so proud,
Perfection in their tone and blend.
Each note is cherished by the crowd.
On such a day, we can't ask more.
Refreshed, regaled and entertained.
The Year proceeds and life goes on.
The vision is in my mind retained.

Nowhere else can boast this day.
Unique unsurpassed anywhere.
The Band, The Dean and Newtongrange.
NEWYEAR'S DAY AND I WAS THERE. !
