Chairman’s Message
Once again a very very big welcome to all who come
along to Newtongrange to help us celebrate this special event.
It seems more difficult every year to write a piece for this page,
it is unfortunate that this small note from myself goes nowhere
near to expressing the gratitude that the local people & businesses
deserve in helping this week take place, without them the Committee’s
job would be a lot harder.
I would also like to thank the committee for all the hard work done
this year, a lot of new Committee members joined us this year which
is a very encouraging sign indeed, this bodes well for future years
and the Gala tradition continuing, a few events like this are starting
to struggle financially and it is only with local support can they
hold on,
The Gala Committee and myself would like to thank some local people
for their continuing support, Mr Brem Trotter, Mr & Mrs A Trench,
Mr & Mrs M Reilly, Mr & Mrs W Gallacher,
The Dean Tavern, The Abbey Granary, The Co-Operative & Newtongrange
Community Council for sponsoring the Gala Week events This goes
a long way to raising the necessary funds we need every year, the
door to door collections are also a very important fundraising solution
& as usual the people of Newtongrange dug deep and helped us
collect in the region of £2000.
A very big thank you to them.
Midlothian Council & all their staff deserve a mention as well
for the time effort & equipment they provide to all Gala’s
and events in Midlothian.
All of the above goes a long way to make Newtongrange Gala possibly
the largest event, attendance wise, in the local area, we certainly
seem to draw the crowds, I wish each & every one of you who
is attending a spectacular day and as usual please say a few words
to the man upstairs regards the weather, it has certainly worked
in the past.
