Chairman’s Message
I would like to welcome everyone who comes along to Newtongrange Children’s Gala, locals and visitors alike. I know that some people attend year after year and it may be the only time they visit Newtongrange but this is surely evidence of the high regard in which Newtongrange is thought of throughout Midlothian.
This has been another difficult year for the Committee in regard to fundraising, but once again we have managed to put on a unique event when many are falling by the wayside. This is, as always, achievable with the help of many people and businesses in the Village. A lot of people work behind the scenes to help the Committee and for this we give many thanks to you all.Midlothian Council must receive a special mention for once again supplying much of the equipment and manpower which allows us to hold this Gala, we also must thank the various Businesses who sponsor or donate to the different events in Gala Week.
Many thanks as well to the Pupils & Staff of Newtongrange Primary School for once again taking part in the competition to design the front cover of the Programme, this years winner is Lucy Henderson,
The Gala Committee has also received a fantastic donation of a hand commissioned Sword for use by the Royal Protector and the Gala in future years, this local Businessman and Resident of Newtongrange does not wish to be identified but suffice to say he has our thanks for this generous gesture, please pay attention to the sword because it is pretty unique, I only wish I could divulge who it was who donated it.
Once again we will be selling Wristbands on the day which will allow access to certain rides throughout the Gala, more details are given later in the Programme about which attractions are included.
Unfortunately, the Committee is to lose a few members this year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the dedicated work they have done over the years, I only hope I can persuade them to change their minds. Bearing this in mind, if anyone would like to join the Committee, come along to any meeting held on the last Thursday of the month in the Dean Tavern at 7pm.
John Turnbull, Gala Chairman. |
